Lightning touches off fire at eastern Iowa college

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (AP) -- Several departments have joined the fight against a fire at Cornell College in the eastern Iowa city of Mount Vernon.
Police say lightning struck the top of College Hall just after 3:30 a.m. Friday. The bell tower that sits atop the building was destroyed.
Classes on the rest of the campus have not been canceled.
No injuries have been reported.
